A fabulous four weeks with a mixture of cities, beaches, islands and stunning views.
Although we were there in low season, meaning accomodation was great value, the weather was fantastic. We only experienced rain during the day four times in four weeks, and each time was only for an hour or so, plus there were no major crowds so you could book things at short notice. If we visit again it is likely that we will do so in June.
Things that stick in our mind about Thailand are:
Thai food is delicious and the people are both friendly and fun
Grab has made getting around really easy, safe and cheap (but some of the fun and noise has gone now there is no haggling with tuktuk drivers)
Pavements are still very much an afterthought compared to roads and would be extremely difficult to navigate in a wheelchair
The plumbing is severely under pressure and you will often walk past a drain emitting a smell that would curdle a milkshake
As bad as mobile phone overuse may be in the UK, it seems worse in South East Asia. On one central Bangkok train journey every person in our carriage was concentrated solely on their phone for the whole journey. It made for a very quiet journey as nobody had sound on, or they had headphones in, but a total contrast to the sounds on the street
The country offers something for everyone from jungle and rainforest to major cities, pristine beaches and islands
